Turnings with Apoxie Sculpt

On this page you will find wood turnings that have either been inlayed, built up or entire vessels done with Apoxie® Sculpt. Apoxie Sculpt is a self-hardening synthetic clay that combines the features and benefits of clay with those of epoxies. I will use artist paints mixed into the soft Apoxie to get the various colors. Once the Apoxie hardens I will re-turn the piece on the lathe.

"Enduring"

This vessel is made from pottery fragmants found near the Flint River south of Atlanta. They date back to the Woodland period more than 1500 years ago. Once I turned the rough shape of the vessel from sculpting epoxy the fragments were then presses into the epoxy .

"Turbulence"

"Swirling Burls"

I turn a firm foam to make the form to apply the sculpting epoxy to before I add the various burls. After I have returned the outside I go back and hollow out the foam core from the inside of the vessel.
